# Recovery: Tool Backups

OkPy takes a recovery snapshot of a tool before each run, so a crash or an unwanted change never costs you the work.

## When snapshots are taken

A recovery snapshot is taken before each run. OkPy keeps up to five snapshots per tool and replaces the oldest when another snapshot is needed. The snapshots are stored on this computer, not in the cloud.

The list shows tools backed up in the last seven days. Select **Load older** to see the remaining tools and their snapshots. Use the tool list to choose which tool you want to recover, then choose one of that tool's snapshots.

## Restore a snapshot

Open **Tool Backups** from the Home screen to recover a tool. Choose the snapshot you want to open, then save the restored copy to keep it.

1. On the Home screen, select **Tool Backups**.
2. Select the tool.
3. Select its snapshot. **Latest** marks the most recent one.

4. Select **Open in editor**. The snapshot opens as a copy.

5. Select **File > Save As** to keep the copy.

{% hint style="info" %}
Restoring never overwrites the current tool. The copy is a separate file until you save it over the original yourself.
{% endhint %}

For saving a restored tool, see **Local files: .okpy, Save, Save As**. For the related build workflow, see **How the agent builds a tool**.

## Housekeeping

Select **Reveal in Explorer** to open the folder that holds a tool's snapshots. This gives you access to the snapshots stored on this computer.

Use **Delete** to remove one snapshot. Use **Delete all** to remove every snapshot of a tool. Both actions ask for confirmation and cannot be undone. Check whether you selected one snapshot or all of the tool's snapshots before confirming.

If you only want to inspect the confirmation dialog, select **Cancel** to leave the snapshot in place.
